After spending one season that was marred with never-ending controversy as the manager of Chivas USA, Jose Luis Sanchez has rebounded and landed a position new position. Affectionately known as “Chelis,” he is currently the manager of Veracruz of the Liga MX. Regardless of how his season goes, he is almost certain to be thrilled to be out of Chivas USA. Ending the season in last place with a record of 3-7-2, in addition to the fact he has “not always followed the patterns of respect and conduct implemented by Major League Soccer, as well as by Chivas USA,” were obvious signs that he would likely have to go to another country for his next coaching position.
Although he doesn’t have the best record as a coach, with only 37 wins, 41 draws, and 47 losses during his 125 previous games as a coach with the Liga MX, the league appears to be happy to have him back. He does acknowledge that he has made significant mistakes in the past stating, “I learned from my big mistakes with Tecos, Correcaminos, and Chivas USA, and I’m not going to make the same mistakes here.”
Only time will tell how Chelis fares now that he is back in his old league. However, you can bet Veracruz fans are hoping that he takes this statement to heart and guides the team toward a winning season.
